I began my journey in the field of food and nutrition by studying Culinary Arts at Robert Morris University and received my Associate’s Degree. I knew near the beginning of my education at RMU that I wanted to focus on nutrition, but found out later they didn’t offer any classes on the subject.
This led me to continue my studies at Illinois State University where I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Food, Nutrition, and Dietetics. I went on to complete my Dietetic Internship at Northern Illinois University. I decided to continue my education and received my Master’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Central Michigan University.
A search for job opportunities in this area of the field led me to find the field of Health Coaching. I didn’t know much about the role of health coaches since it’s a fairly new sub-category in the nutrition field, so as I educated myself and discovered that health coaching fit exactly what I had been searching for. I went through a 6-month training program with Health Coach Institute and am now certified as a Health and Life Coach. I have decided to focus on weight loss, since that’s one of the most prevalent reasons people seek out a health coach. I also intend to eventually have a specific focus on autoimmune diseases. I personally have been managing my own autoimmune disease, Hashimotos Thyroiditis, which is why I feel comfortable providing diet and lifestyle advice for how to manage diseases like that. I have successfully put myself into near remission through diet and exercise.
I ran track and cross country in high school and college. I have participated in many 5/10K races over the years and since April 2018 I have gotten involved in obstacle course races. I believe physical activity has played a big roll in my current positive health condition.
